Chapter 5:Lewis:'Leòdhas'

We travelled up to Lewis from Harris, and spent a day at Hebcelt festival in Stornoway.A great little festival  set next to the sea.

My highlights...

Uig sands-our house for the week was situated overlooking these beautiful beaches and they were just stunning.Round every corner of the headland hid a new beach, and we stumbled across a garden tiger moth-a very bright sight!

Callanish Standing stones-this archaeological site is definitely worth a visit. The stones look like people huddled together with their backs against the wind, and date all the way back to the neolithic era.

Cliff Beach (Camas na Clibhe)-This beach was so impressive with its high cliffs and its exposure to the wild weather. The machair here was beautiful. The strong winds on this beach definitely wake you up.

Gearrannan Blackhouse Village-a traditional crofting village-it's incredible to think these houses were inhabited till as late as the 1970s.I particularly enjoyed seeing a tweed loom in use.

Isle of Great Bernera-Bosta Beach and the Ionad house-Bernera is connected to Lewis by a beach and is special in its own right. The beach at Bosta is great and walks up behind the beach reward you with brilliant views.
