Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in the outdoors-exploring beautiful places from gardens to secluded beaches both in the UK & abroad. Click on to explore more of my photo stories...

Chapter 4: Harris:'Na Hearadh'

Chapter 4: Harris:'Na Hearadh'

We spent a week exploring Harris a few Summer's ago,and for me the island exemplifies escapism.Reaching this island required great effort,as we had to drive to Uig on Skye and from there get the 2 hour ferry to Tarbert in Harris. When we finally reached the island it felt like we couldn't be further away from home, and there was a wonderful feeling of disconnection from normal life. Everywhere we drove there were lochs covered in beautiful white water lilies.

Highlights for me include...

Huishnish Beach and the semi-circular spit of sand which you can either kayak or walk out to.

Luskentyre Beach-a long, open beach with seemingly endless plains of smooth, white sand.

Amhuinnsuidhe castle-we had to drive through this castle to reach Huishnish beach, and it had a little fridge in the outhouse which was always stocked with food for sale including homemade sausage rolls. But these were quite unlike your average, run of the mill sausage roles with about 90% sausage meat and 10% pastry! A Harris delicacy!

The Harris Tweed-there are various outlets across the island selling the famous tweed and they are definitely worth a browse,as the fabric comes in so many beautiful colours and patterns
