A Windy, Winter day at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

A Windy, Winter day at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

On Saturday I got to visit York Sculpture Park in West Bretton as part of an event which we'd organised for the York university Photography society. The park is huge with over 500 acres of parkland and outdoor exhibition space. We visited on quite an overcast, windy day but the park had a very surreal feel about it, with sheep wandering about and huge sculptures scattered everywhere.

My favourite exhibit had to be 'Seizure'. It was a flat which artist Roger Hiorns transformed into a blue crystal cave. He poured 90,000 litres of copper sulphate into the room and when it was drained it left behind a beautiful blue crystal crust everywhere. The flat was since transported to the park and you can actually walk inside it. I have a slight obsession with the colour blue so as you can imagine a room full of bright, electric blue crystals was right up my street.

Definitely work a visit if you're in the Wakefield area especially as entry into the park is free!
