Bali: Part Five: Nusa Ceningan: The Blue Lagoon,explosive waves & the Yellow Bridge
After a long morning of trekking in the heat we reached the Yellow Suspension Bridge linking Lembongan to its sister island of Ceningan. I write this post with a heavy heart as only a week or so ago there was a terrible disaster which resulted in the bridge collapsing during a religious ceremony on the island. I believe at least nine people were killed,all being local,Balinese residents. The loss of the bridge on a practical level must be hitting the people really hard as it is the only way of getting between the islands except of course by boat.Even when I visited , about a month ago, the bridge was very crowded with people crossing on mopeds and by foot.The only positive thing which can be taken from this tragedy is that perhaps the Indonesian government will now take notice and invest in building a stronger and more secure bridge which the people of the islands so desperately need and deserve. After crossing the bridge on our little adventure we walked for about an hour or so until we finally reached the mysterious Blue Lagoon! Wow is all I can say to describe this little cove.The colour of the water was a crazy,sulphuric-blue.We then wandered round to Ceningan Point where there were some newly built bungalows on the cliff. We sipped watermelon juice whilst we watched the huge waves break against the cliffs and send up white spray.
